GESTAMP GROUP

Gestamp is an international group dedicated to the design, development and manufacture of metal automotive components. The Group specializes in developing innovatively designed products to achieve increasingly safer and lighter vehicles, thereby reducing energy consumption and environmental impact.

Gestamp was founded in 1997 with the goal of being a global supplier with a focus on technology. Since that time, Gestamp has grown steadily, progressively adding new products and technologies. This has made us leaders in the design and manufacture of automotive components and one of the leading manufacturers in the automotive industry worldwide.

In Gestamp growth and constancy are our specialty. Our challenge is to position ourselves at the forefront of innovation in the automotive sector. That is why we make every effort to research and develop breakthrough technologies.

We know that in order to progress we must remain close to our customers, so we are present in the big global manufacturing centers and own nearly 100 production facilities. We can thus offer our customers comprehensive solutions that cover the entire production process, from product concept to delivery at their assembly lines.

Group History

In the late 90s, Francisco Riberas Mera promoted the creation of Gestamp with the aim of becoming a leading supplier in the automotive sector.

Gestamp committed to an internationalization strategy from the outset, incorporating companies in France, Portugal and Brazil.

In the early 2000s, the Group entered strategic automobile markets such as Germany and the United States and strengthened its presence in Western Europe.

In 2004, with the acquisition of Hardtech Group, Gestamp increased its technological competencies and completed a whole technological developmentprocess.

From 2006, the Group continued its expansion with a focus on emerging countriessuch as Brazil, Russia, India and China. Furthermore, it heightened activity in the Americas and Europe.

In 2010, Gestamp acquired Edscha, a German leader in automotive closure systems, with 14 plants and 2 R&D centers across 9 countries. This company is recognized by its customers as a highly specialized technological group. Thanks to this operation, Gestamp greatly extended its product portfolio.

This product oriented growth strategy continued in 2011 with the acquisition of the ThyssenKrupp’s metal components division (TK-MF), adding 17 plants and 2 R&D centers to its already extensive production center network. Gestamp thus consolidated its leadership in Western Europe, increased its presence in China and grew in the chassis business.

In 2013 the Group looked towards the financial markets, gaining the support of international investors. It strengthened its shareholder structure in the Americas with the acquisition by Mitsui of 30% of the capital.

In that same year, Gestamp carried out its first bond issue, significantly strengthening its capital structure by diversifying its funding sources.

The opening of two plants in China shows that Gestamp continues expanding in growth markets.

Now, more than 20 years from its foundation, Gestamp is present in 21 countries, has more than 100 manufacturing plants, 12 R&D centers and a workforce numbering over 36,000 employees worldwide.

With the contribution of global solutions, we have become the benchmark supplier for the world’s leading automobile manufacturers. The know-how and technological expertise we place at our customers’ service has enabled us to become their strategic partner moving forward.

    Product diversification

Originally, our portfolio consisted mainly of Body products and, to a lesser extent, Chassis products. With our 2011 acquisition of ThyssenKrupp Metal Forming, we considerably strengthened our position in Chassis products.

Moreover, the acquisition in 2010 of the Edscha components business unit, a leading manufacturer of mechanisms, has allowed us to further increase the range of products we can supply to automakers.

This product portfolio diversification has helped us strengthen our strategic relationships with automakers, who come to us for innovative solutions and high quality products that cover the entire value chain.
